the creative process: part 2

as I mention in this post, I have been working on a necklace to wear to a friend's wedding next week. I decided to go bold and colorful, with lots of sparkle. I finalized my color combination and then the construction process began! check it out:

I went with colorful chalcedony, spinel, carnelian, labradorite, and amethyst

to make construction easier, I separated the gemstones into piles. it also just looks prettier on my desk :)

started stringing! that's my bead stopper at the end to make sure things don't go flying, although they still tend to anyway

first strand complete!

ta da! final necklace. all set for pauline's wedding :)

why hello spring!

I'm excited to announce that my spring collection is now available online!

my collection is made from rose quartz, amethyst, and peridot gemstones. I have always been a huge fan of the light pink-purple-and light green color palate for spring. throughout the month of march I will post ideas about what tops to pair my necklaces with as well as some nail polish pairings!

february birthstone: amethyst

primarily mined in Brazil, amethyst is a member of the quartz family. this popular gemstone comes in both purple and green. the word "amethyst" comes from the Greek work "amethystos", meaning "not drunken". the Greeks believed amethyst prevented intoxication and associated the gemstone with Bacchus, the god of wine because of its wine-purple color.
