serious sparkle

every april and december, christie's hosts its magnificent jewels auction in nyc. it is heaven. I always go to the auction preview and buy the catalogue so I can daydream about owning everything, especially the diamonds over 20 cts. the auction preview is incredibly fun and as a gemologist, I'm a kid in a {very expensive} candy shop. the preview is open to the public and you can even try on some of the pieces (they said "no" when I asked to try on a $5m yellow diamond ring...).

last april I tried on this 50 ct sapphire ring. perfection.

this year the auction will take place on april 17 and all of the details of the lots for sale are now online and there are some incredibly stunning pieces. I'm most excited about all of the colored diamonds. here are a few of the pieces I cannot wait to see in person:

the collection of elizabeth taylor

this weekend I previewed the elizabeth taylor collection that will be auctioned next week at Christie's. the jewels were absolutely jaw-dropping and her collection is quite extensive. you can check out images/details of all pieces here or go in person until december 13. its absolutely worth braving the crowds to see this major sparkle!

christie's magnificent jewels!

Yesterday I went to the previews for the upcoming Sotheby's and Christie's Magnificent Jewels auctions. The jewels were spectacular--especially all of the rare colored diamonds. One of my highlights was getting to try on a 50 carat sapphire ring valued between $250,000 and $300,000. Unfortunately I was not allowed to try on the pink diamond ring that might go for $15m at Christie's, but I did get to admire it through the glass case. Maybe one day I will add some colored diamonds to my jewelry collection!
